No Surprises Act

Shine Behavior Consulting is committed to transparency and helping families understand the cost of services. The information below explains your rights under the No Surprises Act, a federal law designed to protect individuals from unexpected medical bills.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of the expected cost of your behavioral health services.
A Good Faith Estimate:
-
Is provided before services begin or upon request
-
Includes an estimate of the total expected charges for non-emergency services
-
Is based on the information known at the time the estimate is created
The Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and actual charges may vary if services change.

What Could Cause Costs to Change?

Final charges may differ from your Good Faith Estimate due to:
-
Changes in the number, length, or type of sessions
-
Additional services requested or clinically recommended
-
Missed or late-canceled appointments
-
Care coordination with schools or other providers
If your planned services change significantly, you may request an updated estimate.

If You Are Billed More Than Expected

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill.
You can learn more about your rights or start the dispute process by contacting:
-
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
-
1-800-985-3059
